"SOME PEOPLE LEAD WHILE OTHERS
STAND ON THE SIDELINES AND CRITICIZE THOSE WHO DO LEAD”

I would like to start off by wishing each and  every member and their families a safe, prosperous New Year. Along with the New Year comes challenges and fights that we must take on in order to maintain the standard of living that we as well as our families have become accustom to.

As much as we would like to be able to sit back and take pride of our past accomplishments, the reality is that when one fight is over another one begins. Unfortunately, that is just the nature and condition in representing SEPTA employees. We have some fights that are ongoing decade after decade. Fighting for things such as respect, dignity, and job security for our members.

These battles will be waged against employers until the end of time. We have other battles brought on by things such as greed and poor management. It is from greed and poor management that results  in subletting in maintenance work and efforts  to privatize work in transportation. We will continue to fight against subletting and privatization of core bargaining unit work. Why we may not be able to do the work cheaper because we are union laborer we will be able to do the work better and more reliably than any other competitor that SEPTA may bring to the table. As the President of Local 234, I issue a challenge to SEPTA or anyone else to show me a more diverse, skilled, and dependable workforce than the one SEPTA is fortunate enough to have in Local 234 members . Some people use the phrase “Union strong”, as Local 234 President I will take it a step further and say “234 STRONG”. Lets stay strong and united.
